Car insurance laws

If you own a car then you will know that insurance can be a hugely monthly or annual cost. Car insurance can vary from a few hundred pounds a year upwards of two thousand pounds a year and those likely to see the highest premiums are young, male drivers, drivers with a number of points on their licence or drivers who have been disqualified in the past.

Despite the cost of insurance it is vital for any car that is being used or kept on the road to have valid motor insurance. If you do not have this you can find yourself in trouble with the law and risk having your car taken away and crushed.

If your car is not currently being used on the roads then you do not have to have insurance as long as it is off a public road and have been SORN (declared off rad to the DVLA).
